Not much is known about the 2019 Cadillac XT4, which Cadillac has kept shrouded in secret. For instance, Cadillac has not revealed production plans for the new SUV that will slot below the XT5, but new rumors from Bloomberg suggest that the XT4 will be built at the GM Fairfax plant in Kansas—and that preparation for production has already begun.
Rumor also has it that the new Xt4 will be built on GM’s E2 platform, which underpins the Chevrolet Malibu model. If Cadillac hasn’t confirmed this, how do we know? Simple deduction. The only other model produced at the Fairfax plant is the Malibu, so it makes sense that the XT4 will share this platform for convenience and cost efficiency at the plant.
The Fairflax plant is in dire need of this new work, as General Motors had to cut a shift last year. Demand had turned from the Chevy Malibu toward some of Chevy’s crossover offerings. This is good news for the XT4 model, however; it joins Cadillac’s lineup as the popularity of crossovers continues to spread.
